Proctor-Willenbacher has been in publishing since 1980, starting in typesetting on CompuGraphic workstations. We began desktop publishing in 1985 on Macintosh computers, incorporating IBM and UNIX machines, became involved in Web publishing in 1995. Our experience extends from typesetting / composition to advising and setting up new users on electronic systems and troubleshooting hardware and software.

Production Services: We provide production management, on-line copyediting, proofreading, design, templates and usage guides, input editing, art production and cleanup, composition and layout.

Capabilities: We use QuarkXpress to produce two-, four-, and five-color books and brochures from text files to files for press. We use FrameMaker for spot-color books with complicated tables and/or math - through to final files. We also set up sophisticated template sets in FrameMaker for documentation publishing.

Many projects now include deliverables of interactive files for either Web or CD-ROM. Our PDF files are fully searchable with a "live" table of contents (including bookmarks), index, and cross-references. We have provided print production services to publishers, printers, and designers including Addison-Wesley/Benjamin Cummings, Morgan Kaufmann, Apple Computer, Edwards Brothers, Design Office, and 17th Street Studios to mention a few.

Equipment: We have several high-end Macintosh production stations, couple of Windows 98 and NT stations, and several Sun Sparc servers. All have access to 600-dpi (tabloid) LaserWriters; 1200-dpi scanners with the capability of scanning reflective art, transparencies, and slides. Production uses both a Sun Sparc server and a Macintosh server for files and print serving with at least 8 gigabytes of storage capacity supported by a T1 line and Ethernet network - all fast and efficient. We use Zips, CD-ROMs, and FTP for delivering files.

Applications Used Religiously: FrameMaker, QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat; Fontographer; Microsoft Word and Excel; Macromedia Dreamweaver, Fireworks; DeBabelizer; Fetch; vi; HomeSite; and BBedit.
